Aug 06, 2021
A GEER report was just published on the M6.4 earthquake in Petrinja, Croatia. The report presents results from the reconnaissance efforts of a large team of professionals from both the US and Croatia, following the earthquake in Petrinja on December 29, 2020. The report includes information on the tectonic setting of the area, the geology and geomorphology as well as the soil characteristics of the relevant and affected sites. It also presents the data from the recorded ground motions and describes the documented ground deformation, sinkholes, liquefaction and related damage, the response of the levee system and some complementary geophysical investigation work performed. The work was conducted under the auspices of the Geotechnical Extreme Events Reconnaissance (GEER) Association that is supported by the National Science Foundation.
Prof. Adda Athanasopoulos-Zekkos and PhD student Zorana Mijic participated (virtually) in the reconnaissance and were co-authors in the report.
The publication is available by GEER and can be found here.
