Tomas Argandona, MSc Geosystems student, wins frisbee team competition!
May 29, 2024
Tomas Renato Argandona, a dedicated Geosystems MSc student at UC Berkeley, recently helped his team to victory in an intense frisbee competition of 12 teams. Facing difficult opponents and tense moments, Tomas and his team emerged triumphant, marking a memorable achievement in their journey. His team, called Beverly Eagles, invited Tomas to join before the season started, and after a couple of weeks, Tomas was completely integrated into the team, as he has been playing frisbee for over a decade.
The final match of the competition was a gripping affair, characterized by twists and turns that kept the players very tense. Despite starting with a commanding lead of 6 - 0 against the seed 1 Team Doug, the Eagles encountered fierce resistance from their opponents in the second half. As the score tightened to 8 - 7 in favor of the Eagles, the pressure reached its peak. The last point was lasting with many mistakes on both sides, but an impressive hammer throw (disc upside down) in the last play, barely catched by Michael Huang of Beverly Eagles, gave Tomas's team the 9 - 7 in favor and no time left on the clock.
The semi-final match was an equally thrilling affair. In a showdown against the formidable Team Pink Panther, composed of much bigger players solely of Cal's renowned Rowing Team, Tomas and his team staged an extraordinary comeback. Despite trailing 10 - 7, they rallied with remarkable effort and stamina, ultimately securing a breathtaking 10 - 11 victory.
Tomas was not just successful on the frisbee field. He is an example of the diverse talents and achievements of our UC Berkeley Geosystems community.
Congratulations Tomas on your outstanding performance in frisbee and for completing the Geosystems MSc program. Best wishes for continued success!
